In Paper Crafts

Influenced by a culture of cutwork that consists of the paper cutting of the ancient Chinese, the felt appliqués discovered amongst the Siberian peoples, and the Polish folk art of paper cutting, decoupage originated in France in the 17th century as a means of redecorating bookcases, cabinets, and different pieces of furniture.

Decoupage is the artwork of adorning an object through glueing coloured paper cutouts onto it in aggregate with unique paint effects, gold leaf and different ornamental elements. Commonly, an object like a small box or an item of fixtures is protected by cut-outs from magazines or from purpose-manufactured papers.
